The USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is inviting applications to become a member of the National Meat and Poultry Inspection Advisory Committee (NACMPI). The USDA plans to appoint committee members in 2022.
“NACMPI members play an important role in providing advice on the safety and suitability of the food we consume,” Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said. “As the USDA continues to advance racial justice and fairness in its decision-making and policy-making process, it will be essential to attract and appoint people of diverse perspectives and expertise to serve on the Board. NACMPI to achieve our food safety goals. “
USDA seeks applications from individuals with knowledge and interest in meat and poultry food safety and other FSIS policies. We also seek the representation of small and very small establishments and the geographical diversity of the members. Individuals from academia, industry, representatives of state and local governments, public health organizations, and industry and consumer organizations are invited to submit nominations. Self-nominations are welcome.
Established in 1971 by FSIS, NACMPI consists of 20 members and provides advice and recommendations to the Secretary of Agriculture on food safety issues and other matters affecting the activities of the inspection program, including food safety policies that will aid in the development of USDA regulatory policy. NACMPI applications must be accompanied by a covering letter addressed to the Secretary of Agriculture. Submissions should include a completed curriculum vitae or curriculum vitae and a completed USDA Advisory Board Membership General Information Form.
