Since 1999, Konduit has been providing quality custom set construction services for television, film, theater, print, retail, experiences and beyond. We provide a wide range of services beyond basic manufacturing, including design rendering, technical construction drawing, CNC routing, and professional installation/deinstallation. We are located in Long Island City, Queens near most major photography and sound studios with over 10,000 square feet of store space.

Konduit is looking for a Technical Designer/Senior Draftsman for a full-time internal position. This position offers benefits and paid time off. The pay scale is 75,000 to 95,000 per year, depending on the level of experience given.

Job Overview/Qualifications

The ideal candidate possesses the following qualifications:

  • Has at least 3-5 years of experience as a draftsman or technical designer serving the entertainment industry.

  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of standard methods of theatrical construction, rigging, lighting and staging.

  • Proficiency in many if not all of the following software; Autodesk Autocad, Autodesk Inventor, SAi Enroute, SketchUp and Google Workspace.

  • Has knowledge of Adobe design software (a plus but not a requirement).

  • Can function in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail and flexibility with respect to changing project needs.

  • Has experience in team and project management, and customer interface.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate directly with project management and customers to find effective manufacturing solutions for a variety of projects.

  • Consider client expectations and general creative desires as well as budget, scheduling and spatial limitations when finding final manufacturing solutions.

  • Create dimensionally accurate models of all building components to be manufactured and clearly communicate the scope of Konduit’s responsibilities to the customer prior to manufacture.

  • Create construction documents for each unit prior to manufacturing for internal use.

  • Projection of hardware, wood and other material needs for each unit. Communicate requirements with project management and ensure materials are ordered.

  • Clearly communicate design intent to manufacturers and other team members for production.

  • Coordinate CNC workflows and manage CNC resources to meet multiple project requirements.

  • Communicate and assist the CNC operator in maintaining CAM tool libraries, postscript files and CAD file storage solutions.

  • Clearly communicate project timelines and current project status to project managers

  • Manage junior technical designers to help foster best practices in design and construction documents/construction methods.
