The first semester of 2021 at Carson High School is in the past, and a good year and a semester of 2022 have begun. The past is gone and the future is here, so instead of a New Year’s resolution how about taking a look at something much bigger? Two things come to mind, freedom of speech and freedom of action, because anyone with common sense knows that one cannot exist without the other.
So first comes The Talking Locker # 709 at the CHS. In the attached photo, CHS Student Body Secretary Samantha Schofield, Public Relations Officer Sydney Romeo and Treasurer Ginger Cullom discuss the purpose of the locker, which is to give students a place to put their thoughts on how to make the CHS a better school, thus giving them an outlet for freedom of expression. Then, while ideas abound, nothing happens without action, and CHS Leadership hopes to put the ideas of CHS students into action. Regarding action, John F. Kennedy’s inaugural address of January 20, 1961 comes to mind. His historic words, “Don’t ask what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country,” challenged every American to contribute in one way or another to the public good.
Likewise, every CHS student and American can decide to apply the civic action theme of President Kennedy’s inaugural address to their own life and put their good ideas into action. Kennedy inspired students and adults, young and old, to see the importance of civic action and public service when he said, “All of this will not be over in the first hundred days, nor in the first thousand days, not in the life of this Administration, not maybe even in our lifetime on this planet, but let’s get started.
Another inspiring idea from his speech is: “The energy, faith, devotion we bring to this endeavor will light up our country (CHS light) and all who serve it – and the glow of this fire can truly light up. the world. “
The year 2021 is over, it is in the past, and 2022 is here. It’s a whole new year, so, like Kennedy’s inaugural address in 1961, put his words into action and make each day an opportunity to bless others by doing them service, especially those in need. ALLIANCE FOR YOUNG ARTISTS AND WRITERS SCHOLARSHIPS
In the December 4 issue of Senator Square, artwork by Brandon Thompson and Elena Brugger, graphic design and SkillsUSA students from CHS in the courses of Advisor Patricia Ababio were featured. The entry for the writing contest “bruno est orange” and Yanizia Herrara with “charro” are displayed. The following students from Ababio’s classes participate in The Scholastic Art and Writing competition: Yanizia Herarra, Nadia Hill, Emma Lobsien, Charlotte Albin, Aiden Grime, Noah Sa, Tierney Frost, Brandon Thompson and Elena Brugger. The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards are presented by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization whose mission is to identify students of exceptional artistic and literary talent and to showcase their remarkable work in the world. The awards provide students with opportunities for recognition, exposure, publication, and scholarship. The art awards exhibition will take place from February 5 to 25. Gold Key Art will be on display at the Sheppard Contemporary Gallery at the University of Nevada at Reno, located in the Church Fine Arts building. American Visions Nominated Art will be on display at the Nevada Museum of Art, and the awards ceremony will take place on February 10, 6-7 p.m.

SCHOLARSHIP FOR PARENTS AND STUDENTS TO CONSIDER
The Taco Bell Foundation Scholarship, with over $ 7 million, is a scholarship available to passionate students nationwide, is available for review, and is due Jan. 11. Congratulations to CHS Sophomore, Erich Parker on being named Student of the Week. According to Andie Wilkerson, professor of theater, musical theater and English at the CHS, “Erich has an infectious energy that makes every period of class with him a joy for the students and his teachers; he works hard to maintain his grades, overcoming any obstacles in his way, and does it all with a smile on his face and a positive attitude. Wilkerson added, “Erich is an active Senator and can be seen participating in tons of school activities including Chamber Choir, Drama Club, and more.” Carson City School District employees nominate the CHS Student of the Week, and teachers often make the nomination, although anyone in the district can do so by emailing pbrady @ carson .k12.nv.us. Congratulations to Erich Parker who stood out so well that his teacher named him CHS Student of the Week.
