Richmond Utilities Department customers who have experienced economic hardship during the COVID-19 pandemic have until Friday to request relief from overdue bills.
The CARES Act relief is available again after a similar relief grant period last year.
Active customers of the city’s water, wastewater or natural gas utilities who are late in paying utility bills from March 1, 2020 to November 1, 2021 can apply for relief. Customers who have previously received assistance from the CARES Act Utility Assistance Program are eligible to reapply if they are late on a different period of service.
Effective November 1, the Department of Public Services will reinstate late fees for all accounts overdue for more than 30 days. The ministry will also resume collection activities for accounts that are over 90 days past due.
Relief requests can be viewed online at rva.gov/public-utilities or requested by sending an email to [email protected]. Customers can also pick up and submit them at the following locations:
