Free Job Workshops Start Monday | Guam News

Job hunting can get a little easier with the help of the University of Guam’s upcoming free job workshops.

The training will start on Monday 18th April and will cover a range of topics to help job seekers get ahead in the local market.

As Guam’s economy begins to reopen, institutions of higher learning such as UOG have pushed to bolster the island’s workforce.

“That’s one of the intentions, to try and get everyone back to some degree of employment normalcy,” said Sallie McDonald, program coordinator for UOG’s career development office.

On Monday, a CV writing workshop will show participants how to build an effective CV.

Writing a CV can be difficult, especially for those who have never built one before. The Resume Workshop provides an overview of what employers look for in a resume to get an interview.

On Tuesday, the focus shifts to processing applications. Participants will learn how to properly fill out a job application and receive help applying for jobs on the spot.

On Wednesday, participants will learn how to dress for success. The workshop focuses on the do’s and don’ts of dressing for an interview and how to dress to impress a potential employer.

The workshops end on Thursday with mock job interviews. Participants will learn the different types of interviews and how to prepare through hands-on interviews.

All workshops will take place in the dining room of the UOG Student Center. They begin at 10 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m. Space is limited and interested participants must register to reserve a spot.

Registration forms are available at form.office.com/r/UVKyz1xbn1 or residents can receive more information through the Career Development Office at 671-735-2233.

The workshops take place prior to an in-person career fair hosted by UOG on April 27 at UOG Calvo Field House.

This is UOG’s first in-person job fair since the pandemic began, and employers are looking to hire.

“A lot of employers are interested in hiring people, we even have an off-island Pearl Harbor shipyard that travels to employ a lot of people in their organization,” McDonald said.

The growing number of employers who will be attending the job fair include:

  • DZSP 21 LLC
  • GuamTemps Inc.
  • Dusit Thani Guam Resort
  • Bank of Guam
  • Hilton Guam Resort & Spa
  • Crown Plaza
  • Jamaican Grill
  • holiday resort
  • Garden Villa
  • Alupang Beach Resort
  • Pearl Harbor Dockyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility
  • Guam Department of Education
  • Geo-engineering and testing inc.

Job seekers are encouraged to dress professionally and bring copies of CVs and cover letters, as on-site interviews will take place.
