FREDERICKSBURG, VA – Officials from the Rappahannock area health district inspected several restaurants in the area from August 11-17; they found 28 restaurants with violations.

As coronavirus restrictions continue to fluctuate across the state, health inspectors are returning to perform in-person restaurant inspections. However, some visits, such as those for training purposes, can be done virtually.

Violations in restaurants usually focus on factors that can contribute to food contamination. The local health department may also perform a re-inspection to ensure possible violations have been corrected.

For each violation observed, the inspector provides specific corrective action that can be taken to rectify the violation. Sometimes these are straightforward and violations can be corrected during the inspection.

Depending on the results of the inspection, the health service may pursue several actions. They can issue a restaurant permit to continue serving food, they can schedule a follow-up inspection to determine if violations have been corrected, or they can temporarily close an establishment until certain issues are resolved.
