We know that Shah Rukh Khan has a great lineup of films – from Siddharth Anand’s spy thriller, Pathan drama, to action-packed and as-yet-untitled drama from southern filmmaker Atlee and social comedy from Rajkumar Hirani. The superstar who is rumored to play a dual role in Atlee’s next film and who took a five-month hiatus (to work out some personal issues) is set to resume filming from today (February 21) at Film City Studios, Mumbai.
According to a trade source, “Atlee’s film is one of the hottest films of the year. A huge set has been installed at Film City studios in Goregaon, Mumbai, where Atlee, Shah Rukh, Nayanthara and Sanya Malhotra will shoot some crucial actions and dramatic parts of the film from today. After five months, SRK will resume filming for Atlee. It’s a short schedule as SRK will be flying to Spain after that for Pathan. The stylish actor rode in Pune from September 21 last year with a 10-day shoot and pictorial scenes on Shah Rukh and Nayanthara. The 10-day shoot was to be followed by an elaborate action sequence at BD Petit Parsee General Hospital in Cumballa Hill from the first week of October, but the actor was unable to shoot for personal reasons.
However, filming continued in South Mumbai with Nayanthara and Sunil Grover as SRK didn’t want that canceled on his account. Shah Rukh will also complete some of the hospital scenes in this week-long program in Mumbai. The action-packed entertainer’s subsequent programs will be shot in Dubai and other locations in India except Mumbai.
Produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, apparently Atlee’s film sees Shah Rukh try out a dual role as father and son.
The source adds: “Buzz is that the Atlee film will see Shah Rukh Khan again play a dual role after Duplicate and Don – but with a difference. It will revolve around the relationship of a father and son and their love conflicting with their professions. While one Shah Rukh plays a gangster, the other is his father, a senior RAW agent, who is on a mission to catch him. The theme is similar to Shakti (1982 ) by Ramesh Sippy, in which a retired police commissioner (Dilip Kumar) chases his own gangster son (Amitabh Bachchan). But for Atlee’s film, it’s a completely different story with SRK playing the both father and son. Shah Rukh will wear prostheses for the role of the father. “Filming of the film starts from mid-2021 but it depends on when Pathan is finished. Shah Rukh will wear prostheses – something like Kamal Haasan had done it in Indian (1996) when he played the double role of father and son, and for the he role of the 70-year-old father, he wore a prosthetic mask designed by Michael Westmore and Michael Jones.
After that, SRK will fly to Spain for his Pathan schedule. According to the source, “Shah Rukh resumed filming from December last year with Siddharth Anand’s Pathan. He will start the Mumbai schedule at the end of February once he completes his second schedule for the Atlee film, then fly to Spain for the final filming of Pathan, which will take place from the first week of March.
