County to offer drive-thru COVID testing at Turning Stone, Utica National

There were 152 COVID-19-related deaths in New York on Sunday and the statewide seven-day average infection positivity rate was measured at 15.68%, according to a statement from the office of the Governor Kathy Hochul.

In a daily statement, Hochul said, “I am proud of the work New Yorkers have done to keep the numbers down and protect our vulnerable loved ones…While we continue to see promising trends, we haven’t weathered the winter tide. . yet and it is essential that we continue to use the tools that will help stop the spread. Our greatest weapon is the vaccine, so if you haven’t, get vaccinated today and make sure you get your second dose and booster as well.

Oneida County government offices were closed to the public on Monday, January 17 for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. COVID-19 updates are scheduled to resume on Tuesday, January 18.

Drive-thru
testing opportunities

Oneida County will provide weekly drive-thru COVID-19 testing through precision clinical labs at Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona and Utica National Insurance Group in New
Hartford.

• Turning Stone’s driving test site, located at 5218 Patrick Road in Verona, will start on Tuesday, January 18 and will be available thereafter every Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Vehicles must enter through the Patrick Road entrance near the SavOn convenience store. Signs will be in place for directions.

• The Utica National Insurance Group drive-thru testing site, located at 180 Genesee St. in New Hartford, will begin Wednesday, January 19 and will be available every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. thereafter. Vehicles must enter on Genesee Street.

Both test sites are open to the public and no appointment is necessary.

The COVID-19 PCR test, which is collected and processed by Precision Clinical Laboratories (PCL) in Clinton, is a self-administered nasal swab.

PCL is licensed by the New York State Department of Health and certified to meet all requirements to perform high complexity COVID testing. Results are usually available within 24 hours of sample collection.

The tests are free with most medical insurance providers and the cost is $125 for those without insurance.
