With the challenges that come with gaining fame, maintaining stardom in Hollywood, and wanting to elevate your craft in the entertainment industry, some actors have taken on a greater challenge – directing a compelling performance by an ensemble as director and take on leading roles as an actor – at the same time.
While some have made their own films without acting in them, these actors directed and directed their own films. Talk about multitasking and double cashing brilliantly!
10/10 Denzel Washington
Although we know that some actors have fired more towards directing than acting, Denzel still manages to do both very well. Easily one of the greatest actors of all time with movie credits like Training Day, Malcolm X, The Pelican Brief, Washington made his directorial debut in a 2002 film Anthony Fisher in which he starred. He then directed and directed the 2007 film The great debaters. In what appears to be his biggest directorial film to date, he directed and directed the critically acclaimed film adaptation Fences in 2016, where he starred alongside Viola Davis.
9/10 Jean Krasinski
Office The actor has had a good run since his days on the NBC sitcom as an actor and director. Having made his directorial debut in a comedy film in 2009 Brief interviews with hideous men which he also produced and wrote, he directed and starred in the box office hit A silent place alongside real woman Emily Blunt. Even if he hesitated for a sequelhe directed the sequel A Quiet Place 2with his slain character only appearing in flashbacks.
8/10 Joseph Gordon-Levitt
The actor has built quite a solid acting resume, having starred in 500 Days of Summer, GI Joe: The Rise of Cobraand The dark knight rises. With small directing credits in short films, he made his directorial debut in a romantic comedy film in 2013. Don Jonwhere he was the main man, alongside Scarlett Johansson and Julianne Moore as supporting actresses.
7/10 Ben Stiller
The actor and comedian should be used to directing most of the comedy movies he stars in. He directed and led a star-studded cast in the 2008 action-comedy film Thunder in the tropics. Some of his main and directed films include a 2013 adventure comedy-drama film The Secret Life of Walter Mitty alongside Kristen Wiig, Zoolander and its 2015 sequel.
6/10 Sylvester Stallone
Sylvester Stallone is one of Hollywood’s most respected action stars, having starred in popular movies like the Rocky franchiseRambo: First Blood, Demolisher, and The Expendables. He directed and made his directorial debut in the 1978 film alley of paradise. Barely a year later, he resumed his main role in Rocky II, also directing and writing. He then directed and directed Rocky III, Rocky IV, Rocky Balboa, Rambo, and The Expendables.
5/10 Tyler Perry
It’s impossible to go through this list without mentioning filmmaker Tyler Perry. The actor has now become a full-time director with recent TV credits like The Oval, Sistas and Zatima was once a leading man. He portrayed Wesley Deeds III in Good actions alongside Thandiwe Newton, and appeared in the hit 2014 film missing girl. He is best known for directing and playing comic lead character Madea in several Do one feature films. He also made a bunch of movies and acted in, although he was not the main character but in supporting roles like The family attacking the single mothers club, and A fall from grace, among many others.
4/10 Ben Affleck
The talented actor transitioned to directing when he made his directorial debut in a crime thriller in 2007 Gone baby gone but did not play in it. He then directed and directed the 2010 film The city. He must have liked directing because he returned two years later as the leading man, director, and producer of the historical drama. Argo. This film earned him a Golden Globe Award and a BAFTA for Best Director as well as a BAFTA nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role. His 2016 movie Live the night which he directed and directed unfortunately failed at the box office.
3/10 Halle Berry
Halle Berry has proven time and time again that she understands the mission when it comes to portraying iconic characters and achieving historic victories. Having over 30 years of acting experience, she took on a new role in the director’s chair when she made her directorial debut in a 2020 sports drama film. Bruised of which she was the leading lady, playing Jackie “Pretty Bull” Justice.

Bradley Cooper has scored himself the role of a lifetime as a celebrity singer in A star is born, alongside Lady Gaga. It was monumental for the actor who made his directorial debut in this 2018 box office sensation, and picked up a few awards along the way with his co-star. He’s ready to take over directing and directing netflixThe upcoming love story of legendary conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein and his wife Felicia Montealegre. Cooper will play the role of Bernstein in this film called Maestro.

Coming out of working with veteran actor Denzel WashingtonJordan has decided to add directing to his own resume, making his directorial debut in the upcoming film. Creed III which is slated for release in March 2023. After the 2015 film and its 2018 sequel Creed IIhe will reprise his starring role as boxer Adonis “Donnie” Creed for this final episode.
